Little House On The Mountain

Okay, imagine this, you turn on your television flip channels for a few seconds when your attention is caught by the image of a dirt road that curves through a field, where several deer are grazing. They stop and look up, but do not run away. The picture then rolls along following the road which continues across the field to where it enters the woods. It's darker in here, but still beautiful, with trees that seem to reach the sky, and the camera continues to follow the road which begins to climb a hill. Soon, the camera turns a corner and begins to climb another, steeper stretch of road. Finally you come to a place with a bit of a clearing from the trees, and at the top of another hill sits a beautiful 30 foot trailer. The door is open, and through the screen door you see two beautiful children, a boy of about ten years old and a girl of about three and a half, smiling a greeting through the door. They open the door, and the show begins.

Alright, alright, so it's not the opening sequence for one of the shows in the new fall television line up, but it sounds like it'd be a good one. What it is, however is a description of the road from the entrance to our campgrounds to our site, which now boasts our new trailer. I have to say, it really is so wonderful to have so much space, and it's so beautiful inside. I admit, it felt a little like staying in a hotel, something that you enjoy, but it still feels a little strange because it's not a place your used to being, but that feeling will go away, I'm sure, as we get used to it. I mean, so far the kids and I have only spent one night in it, for Heaven's sakes. But we really had a great time last week, I can't get over how easy everything is. I mean, closing up for the week used to be such a chore, but now, with this trailer, it's a matter of turning off the water connection (I know how to do that now heheheheh), turning off the water heater, turning off the lights and locking the door.

Which means, opening it for the weekend is that easy too, just reverse those processes. The fan, heat, and A/C controls are on a panel on the wall. I have a double sink in the kitchen which makes doing dishes a lot easier, and a stove with an oven inside the trailer, which opens a whole realm of possibilities for meals and desserts. I know I mentioned the amount of space already, but I put so much stuff away on Saturday, and there's still a ton of space left over. That's quite a treat for a mom who's family has outgrown their house and who has trouble at home finding a place to put things, simply because there's just no more room.

With this trailer we also have more sleeping space, which means, there's room for an occasional overnight guest. My mom is actually joining us this weekend, and she's never stayed over night before. I think the pop-up was too much like a tent for her, and Mom is definitely not a camper. The kids are real excited that she'll be joining us.

I'm so sorry it took so long to get this post up. I've had a crazy week, my house is a wreck, and I think my DH is reaching the point of getting mad when I blog when the house is a wreck. And honestly, I could go on about the trailer all day, so to keep from boring you, I'll stop myself now. I wanted to get the pictures posted, as promised, before Spanky calls and yells at me again to get them posted.

Before I go though I want to thank everyone who contributed original haiku's to the comments on the "poetry" post. Such wonderful, poetic, strolls down memory lane. Keep them coming, I love them.

Anyway, your all welcome to come see our new digs sometime soon. ;)

    Hey Arlene~
So nice to hear from you here in blogland. Please keep checking in and commenting from time to time. I'm having so much fun blogging, and half the fun of it is the comments.

Thanks for the good wishes. We really are lucky, I think. This weekend the new trailer actually feels like home. The kids really like it alot too, and it really is roomy. The pop-up we had was fine, but it wasn't long before it was just too small. I think we've actually doubled our length with this one, and with the slide-out, it gives us that much more floor space, too. My only regret with it is that we didn't trade in the pop-up sooner, because now we have so few weeks to enjoy it before the season is over. Then we won't be up here again till April. It's sort of funny, K's birthday is the beginning of the camping season, and R's is at the end.

If you take a look in the comments on some of the other posts, Spanky is Eddie S. If you go to the bottom of his profile, there's a link to his site, if you want to check it out.

Alright, I'm going to run for now. Hope to see you around blogland again soon. ~Hugs ;)

Oh my this looks so fun and beautiful! So glad you got it all up and running. How'd your mom do?

Was thinking of how the haiku craze is sweeping the nation thanks to a little comment by scrappy B. Which got me thinking of:

    Bed tossing and pool
    jumping and room invading
    what fun we had huh?

It's like an addiction or something!

Was reading Spanky's blog and saw the craziness has spread over there too!

Also saw over there that you may get grounded from blogland for not housecleaning! Hey girl! Call in reinforcements if needed and go, go, go! We have to go on our playdate very soon!

I also need to know the schedule for this.

    Quickedy quick!

    Oh my darling friend
Our weekend is safe you see
'Cause it's paid in full ;)

    The only worry
Is he'll get upset with me
    If I don't clean up

    An episode of
    Bewitched comes into my mind
    Sam could only rhyme

    Could this be a spell
    That makes me able only
    To speak in "Haiku"

It seems it is the case
I wonder which witch cast it
    Jenny's Avatar?

    I recall she wore
A black dress and pointed hat
    A broom in her hand

    For now I'll depart
    To clean, and be housewifey
    Make my man happy ;)

    PS.

    The costumes are here
I plan to take some pictures
    On the mountain, soonly

    Till then, they'll remain
A surprise for all to see
    I know you'll love them!

    Hi Kim,

The new trailer looks wonderful. I wish you all the best in your new natureland home. I know what you mean about the deer not running. Ours lay on the front lawn in the morning until I come out with their corn. They have me well trained.

Keep up the good work with your blogging. I am really enjoying it.
    Love,
    Alice

    Hey Alice

We have to be careful about feeding the wildlife around the trailer because we leave it for the winter. There was a couple up there who fed the chipmunks and squirrels all camping season long, and then in the winter, when the season was over and no one was coming up there, the critters associated that trailer with food, broke into the trailer and trashed it. So as much as we'd like to feed them, outside of having our birdfeeder up, we really can't. If we were there year round to keep them from coming inside, it'd be different. But even so, the deer don't generally run away, at least not right away.

    What can you do with
    A mis-step that requires
    Q-Tips and wipies?

Why not make it a contest? Anyone want to take a guess at a dreaded Mom job that Kim accomplished with Q-Tips and wipies? The Haiku says it all...Kim, you can determine the duration of the contest and award some sort of prize to the winner. The more creative, the better...in fact...submit your guess in the form of a Haiku and receive some sort of additional award!

Wow - that is a camper??? I'm sitting here thinking - what is it about camping that I don't like again? Let me ask you - if one were to go camping like you do, would there be time for knitting? Hummm...
Oh, and I think you really could fit a swimming pool in there!
I saw an entire knitting blog written in Haiku the other day. I actually don't know the rules of writting one yet. I think I need some lessons!

  • At 11:22 AM, Blogger Kim said…

Spincerely, I thought that must be you. Yes, Sweetie, if you were to camp up at my place, there would most definitely be time for you to knit. Maybe you could even teach me how to do it. I generally work best with paper, photos, and adhesives, but I bet with a good teacher I could learn how to knit.

Haiku writing is pretty easy. It's just a three line poem (no rhyming necessary) about a given subject. The discipline of it lies in the syllable counts of each line. The first line gets five syllables, the second gets seven and the third line, five again.

    Haiku are simple
    If you remember the rule
    Five, seven, then five

As to the camper, my boss, who is also a dear friend of mine, said I'm not allowed to call it camping anymore, because that's not a camper it's a house. But I do assure you that is most definitely a camper, and we absolutely love it. So if you want to come for some weekend and teach me to knit, we'd love to have you. :)

    Where is your camper?
    It's not in your avatar.
    Where did it go Kim?

    As for Bob's question:
Could it be that one of the
    kids stepped in some poo?

    You know what I mean-
A little poo on a shoe,
    What's a mom to do-

    With poo on a shoe?
The kids don't want it there, so
    off the shoe it goes.

    Q-Tips and wipies?
You're braver than I am Kim,
    I'd just buy new shoes!

    OK, haikud out.
I need to get back to work.
    Talk to you later!

    Spanky is the king
Little K stepped in dog poo
    In (sort of) new shoes

    No words can describe
    This grossed-out operation
    Nearly lost my lunch

    The Q-tips and wipes?
    Limited resources, see...
    I used what I had

    The topper then came
    When, not five minutes later
    She pooped in her pants

    It could've been worse
    At least she wore pull=ups
    When will she be trained?

    Show me where it says
    In the Mom Job Description
    "Takes care of all poop"

    AvaK needs change
So I took her to the lake
    The trailer? Back soon.

    You answered so quickly
No time to figure a prize
    What e'er should it be?

    I think the prize is
    My undying affection
    As always, my friend :)

    HAIKU POLICE!!!!!

Step away from your keyboard and back away slowly CampinMom!

You are charged with misuse of a haiku!
    The evidence is as follows:

    "It could've been worse
    At least she wore pull=ups
    When will she be trained?"

It's plainly apparant that you have broken the haiku law. You have commited a blatant offense of section 5-7-5 of the Haiku penal code. In your aforementioned haiku, there are only six syllables in your second line, not seven.

    How do you plead?

  • At 2:33 PM, Blogger Kim said…

Oooops... Guilty I suppose. What happened was that I had a line with two many syllables, and I tried to shorten it, and shortened it by too much. Sorry.

    I can't help but think
With all the Haiku I've written
    Erring once, shouldn't count. ;)

    Bend the law for you?
    Well, I suppose it's OK...
    Don't do it again! :)

  • At 3:21 PM, Blogger Spanky said…

    HEY!

Spincerely, don't take Haiku lessons from Kim... she messed up twice in the following:

    I can't help but think (5, that's fine)
With all the Haiku I've written (8, whoops!)
    Erring once, shouldn't count. ;) (6...uhoh!)

Somebody is thumbing her nose at the Haiku Police!

    Alright, you've got me
    R needed help with homework
    I can't multitask!!

    Forgive my errors
I guess it means I'm human
    Mistakes can happen

    I think if you check
You'll find these all are perfect
    I'm making ammends

    Bend the law for me?
Well why not? It's bent before
    By those who love me

    I guess intentions
    However good they may be
    Don't always matter

    But remember this
My heart is in the right place
    Unintentional errs

    So now I reach up
    Straighten my tilting halo
    Laugh at my mistakes

    Tonight these Haiku
    Are giving me some trouble
    Time to say goodnight

    The purest Haiku
    Must include a mention of
    Weather or season

    Forget that, I say!
    Syllable count will always
    Get your point across

    More to say later
    Must go and teach calculus
    To grateful students
